10 ILLUMINATION SPOTS
Roppongi
A dreamy winter garden where soap bubbles and lights dance
Roppongi’s lush Midtown Garden is wrapped in gentle golden light. Highlights include a production with dancing soap bubbles and a tree made from a real fir. After dining and shopping, this is a Tokyo illumination where you’ll want to take a leisurely stroll along a pathway of light.
Inagi
A night unique to amusement parks, wrapped in gem-colored lights
In winter, Yomiuriland is filled with jewel-like colors of light that spread across the entire amusement park. Enjoy the fountain show where music and light come together, as well as night views from the attractions. We recommend a full-day plan: play on the rides during the day and admire the illuminations from evening.
Oshiage
A Christmas crafted by “STAR LIGHT GOLD” and Tokyo’s symbol
A dazzling winter scene unique to Oshiage, where golden illuminations overlap with Tokyo Skytree. Enjoy it together with shopping and dining at Tokyo Solamachi and nighttime views from the observation deck. With direct access from the stations, it’s easy to get around and perfect for a Christmas outing with children.
Marunouchi
Champagne-gold lights envelop about 1.2 km of street trees
Right by Tokyo Station, the street trees along Marunouchi Naka-dori are bathed in champagne-gold light. The warm glow pairs beautifully with a cityscape lined with historic buildings and sophisticated shops. It’s a winter promenade perfect for a leisurely stroll before or after dinner, or to cap off a day of sightseeing in Tokyo.
Roppongi
Silvery lights with a view of Tokyo Tower
About 400 m of Keyakizaka Street is coolly adorned with white and blue lights. The view of Tokyo Tower beyond the illumination is a quintessential winter scene of Roppongi. Enjoy it while strolling along the slope, and consider stepping back a little to capture the whole scene in a photo.
Ebisu
The brilliance of one of the world’s largest Baccarat chandeliers
A 250-light Baccarat chandelier elegantly illuminates the nights at Ebisu Garden Place. The delicate sparkle created by crystal is striking both up close and from a little distance. Glamorous yet serene, it’s a place where you’ll want to linger before or after dinner.
Hibiya
A winter Hibiya where the city and entertainment shine
You can encounter different expressions of light at the plaza of Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, along Hibiya Nakadori, and in the 6th-floor garden. The staging where music overlaps with light and the chance to gaze at the city-center nightscape together are also part of the appeal. Stop by on a movie or theater day, and it will gently color the afterglow of your outing.
Suidobashi
A winter wrapped in white light and Cinnamoroll
More than one million white lights blanket all of Tokyo Dome City like a snowy scene. Special displays with Cinnamoroll, a tall tree, and a tunnel of light are also highlights. Easy to combine with attractions and dining, it’s a free illumination event that families can drop by with ease.
Oi
Meet light and horses in the final season
Stroll through the spacious venue and enjoy a variety of light productions, including the 100 m Edo Sakura Tunnel and a giant Mega Tree. Unique to Oi Racecourse are encounters with miniature horses and ponies, as well as programs where horses and light perform together. As it is scheduled to go on hiatus after this season, it’s a special winter you won’t want to miss.
Yoyogi Park
Wrapped in light and sound, walk through the night forest
This is an experiential illumination that takes you on a roughly 1.8 km walk through Yoyogi Park, touring 17 light zones each with a different character. The scenes created by light enveloping the trees and music offer an atmosphere distinct from city illuminations. Enjoy a time that feels like stepping into a night-forest story.
