On Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Ota City Industrial Plaza PiO, we will host a large networking event exclusively for people in their 20s and 30s, 「蒲田BIG恋活フェス」! Collection Exhibition Tokyo Photographic Art Museum “TOP Collection: Tomorrow’s Dining Table” Now Open A photography exhibition that looks at food and reflects on how we live At the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, the exhibition “TOP Collection: Tomorrow’s Dining Table,” which explores the relationship between “food” and “living” through photography and moving images, is being held. The venue is the 3rd-floor exhibition gallery of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. The exhibition runs from Thursday, July 2 to Monday (national holiday), September 21, 2026. “TOP Collection” is a series of exhibitions that presents approximately 39,000 photographic and moving-image works in the museum’s collection from a variety of perspectives. Using “food” as a key to view the works, this exhibition invites consideration of issues faced by contemporary society such as population aging and eating alone. Through dining tables depicted in photographs and videos, it invites each visitor to reflect on “eating” and “living together.” Considering food and society across four galleries ROOM 01 Room 1 “Back Then, at That Table” Featuring works by five artists—島尾伸三、原美樹子、野口里佳、潮田登久子、川内倫子—on the theme of memories of family and personal dining tables. It turns our gaze to everyday food scenes that suddenly resurface in memory and to the dining table as an accumulation of memories. ROOM 02 Room 2 “Between Food and Place” Through works by 奈良原一高、山田實、宮本隆司、竹谷出, the exhibition re-examines ties between land and food. From urban eateries to fisheries and practices that pray for bountiful harvests and catches, it considers how food has been connected to each locale. The series 〈にほんのかけら〉 by 竹谷出 will be exhibited here for the first time since entering the museum’s collection. ROOM 03 Room 3 “Within the Environment” Through works by 宮崎学、土田ヒロミ、楢橋朝子、岩井優, the exhibition considers the relationship between human activity and the natural environment. Against the backdrop of issues surrounding food and daily life—such as fluctuations in food prices, changes in wildlife habitats, and reputational damage to food following the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake—it examines the relationship between our lives and the environment. ROOM 04 Room 4 “Tomorrow’s Dining Table” This section considers the future of food—how we will eat from now on. As aging, solitary eating, and the rise in single-person households change the environment surrounding food, we introduce 折元立身’s “Grandmother’s Lunch” series. The series documents scenes of sharing meals with local seniors at Ryusenji Temple in Nihonmatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, and a communication-art project inviting 500 grandmothers to a monastery in Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city in Portugal, where they dance, sing, and gather around the table. This chapter invites us to reconsider the joy of sharing a table and, through connections with others, the meaning of “living together.” Film Screenings and Collaboration Menu During the exhibition period, films themed around “food” and lifestyle — 『かもめ食堂』, 『めがね』, and 『土を喰らう十二ヵ月』 — will be screened at the first-floor hall of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. In addition, at the first-floor Café From Top, you can enjoy the exhibition’s collaboration menu, including “Watermelon Cake” and a one-plate dish of duck rice and pumpkin soup.
