GURUTTO TOKYO REPORT
We went to the pre-opening of “Design Festa mini 2” held in Harajuku!
A limited three-day event from June 19 to 21, it was a large-scale art event that used the entire EAST and WEST buildings of Design Festa Gallery Harajuku.
Despite being the pre-opening, it was already bustling with many visitors, and the entire venue was filled with excitement.
The venue was Design Festa Gallery Harajuku, located in Jingumae, Harajuku.
Colorful art adorns the exterior walls and entrance, letting you enjoy its distinctive atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
Venue maps and event guides are provided, allowing you to tour the exhibition rooms in both EAST and WEST while enjoying a wide range of works.
Each room differs in atmosphere and genre, bringing new discoveries every time you move on to the next one.
Part of the appeal is wandering the slightly maze-like venue and discovering your own favorite works and creators.
The venue was lined with handmade works brimming with creators' care and attention, including accessories, character goods, illustration pieces, and more.
Beyond seeing the pieces up close, speaking directly with creators to learn about their motivations and the appeal of their works is a pleasure unique to Design Festa mini 2.

The building itself is one of the highlights; from the entrance and interior to the stairs, corridors, and exterior walls, art is spread everywhere.
As you move back and forth between EAST and WEST and make your way through the building, colorful doors, murals, and unique decorations appear one after another.
The slightly complex interior layout makes it feel like an exploration, and just walking around was exciting.
Vivid murals and distinctive artworks are scattered throughout, making every scene a photogenic spot.
Art also appears in unexpected places, such as around hallway corners and behind the building. As we toured the interior, we found many places that made us stop and take photos.
On the exterior walls of the EAST building, murals featuring unique characters and origami motifs are also painted.
A distinctive charm of Design Festa Gallery Harajuku is that you can enjoy not only the exhibition rooms but even the exterior of the building as if it were an art piece.
I heard that more than 3,000 visitors came over three days at last year's inaugural event, and it was no surprise to see such crowds from the very first day of the pre-opening.
It's an event not only for art lovers but also for those who want to discover new creators and works.
As the entire building is a space enveloped in art, it's also recommended to stop by while exploring Harajuku.
