A photography exhibition that reflects on food and explores ways of living ahead

At the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, the exhibition “TOP Collection: Tomorrow’s Table” examines the relationship between “food” and “living” through photography and moving images. The venue is the 3rd-floor exhibition gallery of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. The exhibition runs from Thursday, July 2 to Monday (holiday), September 21, 2026.
“TOP Collection” is a series of exhibitions that presents selections from the museum’s approximately 39,000 photographs and moving-image works from a variety of perspectives.
By looking at works through the lens of “food,” the exhibition also considers issues confronting contemporary society, such as population aging and solitary eating. Through dining tables depicted in photographs and video, each visitor is invited to reflect on “eating” and “living together.”

ROOM 01

Gallery 1 “At That Time, At That Table”

Introducing works by five artists—島尾伸三、原美樹子、野口里佳、潮田登久子、川内倫子—on the theme of memories of family and personal dining tables.
From food scenes that suddenly surface in everyday life, the exhibition turns attention to dining tables that accumulate as memories.

ROOM 02

Gallery 2 “Between Food and Place”

Through the works of 奈良原一高、山田實、宮本隆司、竹谷出, the exhibition reexamines the connection between land and food.
From urban eateries to fisheries and practices that pray for bountiful harvests and catches, it explores how food has been tied to each locale. The series 〈にほんのかけら〉 by 竹谷出 is being exhibited for the first time since its acquisition by the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum.

ROOM 03

Gallery 3 “Within the Environment”

Through the works of 宮崎学、土田ヒロミ、楢橋朝子、岩井優, the exhibition considers the relationship between human activity and the natural environment.
Against the backdrop of issues surrounding food and daily life—such as fluctuations in food prices, changes in wildlife habitats, and reputational damage to food caused by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident following the Great East Japan Earthquake—it reflects on the relationship between our lives and the environment.

ROOM 04

Room 4 "Tomorrow's Dining Table"

We consider the future of food—what our meals will be like from now on. As the environment surrounding food changes due to aging populations, eating alone, and the increase in single-person households, we present Tatsumi Orimoto's "Grandmother's Lunch" series.
The series contains records of communication art, including sharing meals with local seniors at Ryusenji Temple in Nihonmatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, and inviting 500 grandmothers to a convent in Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city in Portugal, to dance, sing, and gather around the table. This chapter invites you to reconsider the meaning of "living together" through the joy of sharing a table with someone and connecting with others.

Film screenings and collaboration menu

During the exhibition period, films themed around "food" and lifestyle—'かもめ食堂', 'めがね', and '土を喰らう十二ヵ月'—will be screened in the hall on the first floor of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. In addition, at the first-floor Cafe From Top, you can enjoy the exhibition's collaboration menu items such as the "Watermelon Cake" and a one-plate meal of duck rice with pumpkin soup. Furthermore, at "WINE MARKET PARTY" on B1F of Ebisu Garden Place, special offers are available for visitors who present an exhibition ticket.
