Savor deep rejuvenation while wrapped in the warmth of the Showa era. A healing space where retro charm merges with an authentic sauna

A relaxing spot where you can enjoy Showa-retro public bathhouse culture and an authentic sauna at the same time
大塚記念湯

Located in Toshima, Tokyo, just a 3-minute walk from JR Yamanote Line Otsuka Station. Nestled amid the bustle of the shopping street, 「大塚記念湯」 is a unique public bathhouse where a surprising sight unfolds the moment you step inside.

The biggest attraction is the magnificent “Great Universe” painted across the entire ceiling of the changing room. Whether while soaking in the bath or looking up after your bath, the galaxy gives you an overwhelming sense of openness that makes you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The first floor is a spacious public bath (sento) beloved by the community, and the second floor operates as “サウナニュー大塚,” offering a retro, calming sauna space that strongly retains the atmosphere of the Showa era. These two different charms coexist, and it is affectionately known among visitors from Japan and abroad as “宇宙銭湯.”

1. An overwhelming sense of immersion in the “Great Universe” spreading across the ceiling

The cosmic murals painted on the walls of the changing room and bath are truly spectacular. The design, studded with stars and planets, adds a modern sense of playfulness to the traditional setting of a sento, letting you feel as if you are relaxing in outer space. Photogenic, of course, it also visually refreshes both body and mind.

2. Reset your mind at the Showa-retro 「サウナニュー大塚」

The second-floor sauna area is an adults-only hideaway for ages 16 and up. The far-infrared sauna is set to about 100°C for men and about 90°C for women, a serious setup that pairs perfectly with the cold well-water bath (about 16°C) pumped from 100 meters underground.ガウンやタオルがセッ

3. A wide variety of baths and the convenience of dropping by empty-handed

From medicinal baths and jet baths to reclining and electric baths, this sento offers a diverse array of tubs so you can enjoy bath‑hopping to suit your mood. In addition to complimentary shampoo and body soap, towel rentals are inexpensive (from 10 yen), making it easy to stop by empty‑handed between sightseeing or after work.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Ota City Industrial Plaza PiO, we will host a large networking event exclusively for people in their 20s and 30s, 「蒲田BIG恋活フェス」! Beyond matching apps, we want to create a place to meet where people can actually see each other face to face and talk naturally while sharing the same time and space. With that in mind, this is a community-based dating event planned to be held in Kamata. “In everyday life, there are few opportunities to meet new people” “It’s hard to grasp someone’s vibe through a matching app” “Formal marriage-hunting parties make me a bit nervous” We aim to offer a casual networking event that helps people in their 20s and 30s take the first step with ease. The venue is about a 3-minute walk from Keikyu Kamata Station. It’s a standing, free-mingling style event for up to 250 people, where you can socialize while enjoying light snacks and all-you-can-drink. It’s not a format where you talk to assigned partners in turn. You can move freely around the venue and enjoy conversations at your own pace with anyone who interests you. First-timers and solo attendees are very welcome! You can also join with friends. Of course, those looking for a partner are welcome, and so are those who “just want to talk to new people first.” Please feel free to join us.
