1. Precious architecture and scenery preserving the Edo-period appearance
The main shrine building of Akasaka Hikawa Shrine retains exactly the appearance it had when it was built in Kyōhō 14 (1729) during the mid-Edo period. As you stroll through the grounds, numerous heritage objects—stone monuments and lanterns inscribed with Edo-era dates, and seven pairs of komainu—are scattered throughout, letting you feel the history as if you had time-traveled to the Edo period.

2. The lush sacred grove surrounding the shrine
The grounds are surrounded by abundant trees that make you forget the bustle of the city. Trees including a great ginkgo over 400 years old show different faces with each season, bringing visitors healing and peace. Visiting while feeling the breath of nature offers a special time to refresh both body and mind.

3. Matchmaking blessings and monthly worship
Because it enshrines the married deities Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Kushiinadahime-no-Mikoto, as well as Oonamuchi-no-Mikoto, it is known for strong “matchmaking” blessings. Starting on the 1st of each month, the monthly-visit goshuin “Kasane” is distributed, and the once-a-month “Enmusubi Mairi” is supported by many people praying for good relationships.

At Akasaka Hikawa Shrine, a variety of festivals and events are held throughout the year.
Every year on September 15, the Annual Festival (Akasaka Hikawa Festival) is conducted, allowing you to feel the community’s tradition and vitality.
From 9:00 a.m. on the 1st of each month, the monthly goshuin “Kasane,” whose design changes every month, is available.
Shinto wedding ceremonies are also held within the shrine grounds, where you can celebrate a new chapter of life in a traditional and solemn atmosphere.
Opportunities to experience Japan’s traditional culture are also offered through “お教室・崇敬会”.
