Visiting the Source of Glass

At the core of Hirota Glass's creation is the essential "source" of the glass industry's history, which our predecessors have continuously preserved.

Recently, I visited one of the birthplaces of this history, the "Shinagawa Glass Manufacturing Site."

The monument standing there silently is a solid record that conveys the dawn of modern glass industry in Japan.

Every time we engage earnestly with glass and experience the transmission of skills from person to person, we are reminded of how grateful we are to be able to deliver products today.

Our aim is not only to preserve history as it is.

It is also to steadily redesign it into a form suitable for today's lifestyle, carrying on the thoughts of our predecessors.

"What feels comfortable in today's era?"

While pondering such things, I hope to create vessels that gently accompany your daily life.

Unaffected by trends, something that can be cherished and used for a long time.

This beauty might only emerge because of the baton of certain history.

We will continue to carefully deliver glass products that live alongside today's lifestyles while unraveling history.

♦︎ Parts of the brick construction from those days have been relocated to the Meiji-Mura museum in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, where they are carefully preserved and open to the public as "The Ministry of Public Affairs Shinagawa Glass Factory."
