Even if you feel that “wagashi making seems difficult,” please don’t worry. At our classroom, experienced instructors provide careful guidance in small groups of up to six people, teaching wagashi you can easily recreate at home. We also share tips so anyone can whisk delicious matcha without being bound by rigid formalities. In particular, for guests from overseas and international students, we offer opportunities to explore the depth of Japanese traditional culture with explanations in English.

1. Hands-on courses that blend tradition with convenience
Our studio offers two courses: a “Regular Class,” where you make 2–4 types of seasonal wagashi, and an “Experience Class,” where you make one type of nerikiri (two pieces). The “Experience Class” is especially convenient, letting you enjoy wagashi making and a matcha tasting in just 1.5 hours, so it’s easy to join even between sightseeing. “Yanesen,” where our studio is located, is a nickname formed from the first letters of Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi. It’s a charming area that preserves the scenery of old Tokyo. Retro shops and cafés, along with historic temples and shrines, are dotted along its narrow lanes; even just strolling around lets you feel the best of Japan’s old-time culture. It’s also close to Ueno Park and the Tokyo National Museum, so you can fully enjoy Tokyo’s deeper charms alongside your wagashi-making experience.

Check RouteTaito City Lecture & Culture2026.10.14(水)–12.06(日)700th Anniversary Commemorative Special Exhibition 「大徳寺 本朝無双之禅苑」 The special exhibition 「大徳寺 本朝無双之禅苑」, commemorating the 700th anniversary of 大徳寺 in Murasakino, Kyoto, will be held at the Heiseikan, Tokyo National Museum. Since its founding in 1326, 大徳寺 has developed through deep connections with generations of eminent monks, emperors, Sengoku warlords, and tea masters. This exhibition brings together the temple treasures from within the 大徳寺 precincts, including its sub-temples and temples of the 大徳寺 school, to present 700 years of history and culture. Highlights of the Exhibition 14 National Treasures and 69 Important Cultural Properties on display It has been 41 years since an exhibition bringing together the treasures of 大徳寺 was last held, and this is the first time in Tokyo. Invaluable works that convey the history of Zen and art will be exhibited, including the National Treasure 「観音猿鶴図」, the Important Cultural Property 「龍虎図」, and the National Treasure 「看読真詮榜」 by 宗峰妙超. Some works will be rotated between the first and second halves. The first half runs from Wednesday, October 14 to Sunday, November 8, and the second half runs from Tuesday, November 10 to Sunday, December 6.
