Ghost in the Shell Exhibition Ghost and the Shell

The first-ever large-scale exhibition spanning the entire Ghost in the Shell anime series, 'Ghost in the Shell Exhibition: Ghost and the Shell', will be held at Toranomon Hills 「TOKYO NODE」!

With the full cooperation of Production I.G—the studio behind the animation of successive entries since the 1995 theatrical release 『GHOST IN THE SHELL/攻殻機動隊』—and Science SARU, which is producing a new anime slated to air in 2026, this exhibition takes Masamune Shirow’s 1989 original as its starting point and surveys every work in the anime series. It is the first large-scale exhibition in the series’ history that lets visitors traverse 30 years of Ghost in the Shell.

In addition to works by successive directors such as Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, Kazuya Kise, and Shinji Aramaki, the exhibition also plans to showcase pieces related to the new anime by Science SARU scheduled for 2026. Visitors can appreciate and compare the distinctive themes and worlds of each work.

During the exhibition period, a wide array of exhibition-exclusive original goods will also be on sale. Don’t miss special items available only here. The exhibition is also scheduled to tour overseas, so keep an eye on new developments as Ghost in the Shell expands worldwide. This is an unprecedented exhibition where anime, technology, and art converge. Take this opportunity to pay a visit.

《Highlights》
◆ Tracing the origins of the entire series — Over 600 archival items, including previously unreleased materials —
We will present more than 600 valuable materials produced throughout the making of the Ghost in the Shell series—ranging from a vast number of key drawings and setting materials to storyboards—including items never before made public. Through numerous archives and director-specific interviews premiering at this exhibition, you can compare and experience the sources of each installment while getting a feel for the reality of the production floor. This is a rare chance to witness the creative site of Ghost in the Shell—captivating even for those who aren’t yet fans.

◆ Unearthing the future from the depths of information — An immersive, full-body experience —
We plan immersive installations and interactive, hands-on exhibits unique to TOKYO NODE. Also screening are valuable interview videos that interpret the series’ story from each director’s perspective, offering new viewpoints on Ghost in the Shell you may not have known. A particular highlight is the “DIGる(ディグル)” exhibit, where visitors themselves access the world and vast troves of information of Ghost in the Shell to unearth hints for the future. It is a one-of-a-kind exhibit that invites you to delve deep into the series’ worldview and decode it with both thought and the senses.

◆ A place where “past and present” intersect — Redefining “What is human?” —
This exhibition is not merely for viewing; through each experiential display it seeks to overlay the future envisioned and questioned by Ghost in the Shell with changes in the real world, becoming a place where every visitor can encounter “their own Ghost in the Shell.”

Furthermore, it reexamines the universal question Ghost in the Shell has consistently posed—“What is a human?”—from the perspective of contemporary cutting-edge technologies such as AI and BMI (Brain–Machine Interfaces). By unraveling the relationship between “GHOST” and “SHELL,” it offers visitors the opportunity to move between “past and present” and reconsider their own existence.

◆ 'Ghost in the Shell' Another Perspective - A Co-creative Project with Creators Around the World -
During the exhibition period, we plan to present installation displays co-created with contemporary artists and creators active in Japan and abroad who have been influenced by 'Ghost in the Shell.' This will be a valuable opportunity to experience firsthand the impact and diversity that 'Ghost in the Shell' has had on creators around the world.

◆ In addition to original merchandise, an original shop unique to this crossover exhibition
Along with original merchandise exclusive to this exhibition, we will open an original shop made possible precisely because it is a crossover exhibition. Enjoy a special shopping experience available only here.
