A power spot for leaps forward, watching over the skies and travel

A unique temple spot for flight safety and travel prayers
飛不動尊 龍光山正宝院

Located in a quiet residential area of Tokyo’s Taito Ward, in the old downtown, stands 「飛不動尊 龍光山正宝院」. Founded in 1530 as a temple of the Tendai sect, it has long been affectionately known as the “Flying Fudō” and the “Calamity-warding Fudō.” In recent years, it has become widely known among the aviation industry and travel enthusiasts as a “guardian of journeys.” The grounds are enveloped in a tranquil atmosphere, making it a special place for those who wish to step away from daily life and offer quiet prayers.

1. Unique blessings related to "flying"

The temple’s greatest feature is that, as its name suggests, it protects everything related to “flight.” Not only airplane passengers and people in the aviation industry, but in recent years drone operators—and even those praying for greater “distance” in golf or baseball and for “no failing (=not falling to the ground)” in exams—also come to worship here. It also drew attention for prayers offered for the safe return of the Hayabusa asteroid probe.

2. Distinctive amulets and goshuin stamp books

Recommended here are unique amulets and goshuin books available only at this temple. The goshuin books featuring airplanes, rockets, artificial satellites, and golfers peeking through the clouds are irresistible to collectors. Popular travel charms include airplane-shaped amulets that pray for “aviation safety.”

3. A quiet temple in a traditional downtown neighborhood

Set a little apart from the bustling tourist areas, it offers a calm and quiet atmosphere. The grounds, tucked away in a residential neighborhood, make you forget the city’s clamor. A dignified air flows here, gently embracing visitors’ special wishes.
