An urban hideaway hot spring in Tokyo to forget the city bustle and soothe mind and body
【さやの湯処】
Located in Itabashi City, Tokyo, 前野原温泉 さやの湯処 is a day-use hot spring facility where, despite being in the city center, you can enjoy genuine free-flowing water straight from the source. The gentle, olive-hued cloudy water is a natural hot spring bubbling up from 1,500 meters underground, and its composition is an iodine, sodium, chloride strong saline hot spring (hypertonic neutral spring). Because of its high salt content, the salt that adheres to the skin prevents the evaporation of sweat and helps retain warmth after bathing, so it is also called the "heat bath".
The entire facility is an atmospheric Japanese space that recreates the charm of Showa-era homes, offering visitors a soothing, peaceful time.
Three recommended highlights
1. Rare “uguisu green” free-flowing natural hot spring and a variety of baths
This is a rare natural hot spring in Tokyo with a gentle uguisu-green cloudy hue. The spring quality is a strong chloride saline hot spring containing iodide and sodium; the salt adheres to the skin, preventing perspiration from evaporating and providing excellent heat retention. It is slow to cool after bathing, also called a “heat bath,” and is considered a therapeutic spring effective for symptoms such as sensitivity to cold.
Furthermore, at さやの湯処 you can enjoy the hot spring in various types of tubs.
🔸Open-air baths: Starting with a free-flowing bath directly from the source, you can enjoy baths with different atmospheres such as pot baths and reclining baths. Relax in an open space while feeling the changing seasons.
🔸Indoor baths: Using tubs filled with smooth-feeling well water, there are high-concentration carbonated baths, various jet baths, and reclining baths—fully equipped functional baths.
2. “Juwari soba” to savor while gazing at the garden
At the in-house dining place “柿天舎,” you can enjoy meals while viewing the garden. The particularly refined menu is the “coarse stone-milled gurumi juwari soba,” made with 100% domestic buckwheat flour from Hokkaido and other regions at their seasonal best. It is a gluten-free food with high nutritional value, rich in dietary fiber, vitamin B1, and rutin, allowing you to savor fragrant soba that is “freshly milled, freshly made, and freshly boiled.”
3. A beautiful Japanese garden that reveals different expressions through the seasons
The Japanese garden that can be seen from various places in さやの湯処 shows different expressions with the seasons and soothes the hearts of visitors. In particular, the mossy dry landscape garden spreading out in front of the dining place “柿天舎,” together with the stately presence of the historic building, creates a space with an extraordinary ambiance. It is a precious place where, even in the city, you can feel Japan’s beautiful nature and traditional aesthetic sense.
