Located in Tsukiji, Chuo City, Tokyo, right next to the bustling Tsukiji Market, Namiyoke Shrine has long been revered for its divine virtue of “warding off calamities and overcoming waves.” Rooted in the local community, it is visited by market workers and many others who pray for daily safety and prosperous business. 1. Divine blessings for warding off calamities and business prosperity

As its name suggests, Namiyoke Shrine is known for the divine virtue of “riding out the waves,” and is said to bestow various benefits such as protection from calamities and misfortune, business prosperity, and safety in construction. It serves as a spiritual anchor for those who wish to overcome life’s rough waves.

2. Unique precincts and highlights

Within the grounds are unusual mounds related to the market, such as “すし塚,” “海老塚,” and “玉子塚.” In addition, the carvings of the “lion head,” symbolizing the lion that subdues the dragon commanding clouds and the tiger commanding wind, as well as the “Azure Dragon and White Tiger,” are breathtaking. The Seven Lucky Gods are also enshrined, offering plenty to see.

3. Lively annual events

Every June, the “つきじ獅子祭,” counted among the three great Edo festivals, is held on a grand scale. The sight of the gigantic lion head parading through the town is truly powerful. In addition, monthly “Seven Lucky Gods Pilgrimage” and seasonal festivals are held throughout the year, delighting visitors.

At Namiyoke Shrine, goshuin seal stamps and amulets with seasonal designs are offered. In particular, on the Seven Lucky Gods pilgrimage held on the 7th of each month, the sacred images of that month’s Seven Lucky Gods are unveiled, and you can receive a special seal. In addition, during the New Year, zodiac protective talismans are distributed free of charge, and a special misfortune-warding prayer festival is also held. You can enjoy different aspects of the shrine depending on when you visit.
