An interactive museum in Odaiba where science meets the future.

A national science museum in Odaiba, Tokyo where you can experience cutting-edge science and technology
【Miraikan – The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation】

Located in Odaiba, Koto-ku, Tokyo, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (commonly known as "Miraikan") offers exhibits and events where visitors can experience cutting-edge science and technology. Its concept is "a place to understand what is happening in the world from a scientific perspective, and to think together and discuss what kind of future we will create."
The museum is organized into three zones—"Exploring the World," "Creating the Future," and "Connecting with the Earth"—and covers a wide range of science and technology related to our future, including robots, artificial intelligence, life sciences, the global environment, and space. Science communicators with diverse backgrounds are on hand, conveying the excitement and potential of science through dialogue with visitors.

Three recommended highlights

Tap or click the images to view them at their original size.

1. Iconic exhibit “Geo-Cosmos”

This 6-meter-diameter Earth display, made of about 10,000 LED panels, shows how our planet has looked over the past 90 days. Because it incorporates data captured by weather satellites every day, you can view the Earth as recently as about two days ago. This iconic exhibit at Miraikan greets visitors with an overwhelming sense of scale.

2. A diverse array of hands-on permanent exhibits

Another attraction is the museum’s original exhibits on cutting-edge science and technology. In April 2025, two permanent exhibits were unveiled: “Quantum Computer Disco,” where visitors can learn about quantum computer programming through a DJ-style experience, and “The Unread Universe,” which offers a glimpse into the frontiers of knowledge in astronomy and particle physics.

There are also many participatory, hands-on exhibits that invite visitors to touch, explore, and discover for themselves. These include “Nanairo Quest,” where you complete missions in a future city where humans live alongside robots; “Aging Park,” which allows you to simulate the aging process; and “Hello! Robot,” where you can interact with communication robots. From adults to children, everyone can enjoy the world of science and technology according to their own interests.

3. Full-dome visual experiences at the Dome Theater

At the Dome Theater, you can enjoy films that let you experience the worlds of science and space. The programs combine a planetarium with full-dome stereoscopic visuals, projecting bright, vivid images onto the domed screen that let you sense even the atmosphere and presence around you.

The screening period of “The Night Is Gentle,” the only planetarium work created by :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}, has been extended until April 6, 2026. You can also enjoy works that fuse science and art.
