Exquisite sushi at a long-established restaurant founded in 1955
『Sushi Sasaya』
We are introducing 『Sushi Sasaya』, located a 7-minute walk from Waseda Station.
This 60-year-old establishment is a renowned restaurant where everything delicious comes together: not only sushi crafted by seasoned artisans, but also à la carte dishes made with carefully selected fresh seafood and fine sake curated by the owner, a sake sommelier.
The specialty of “Sushi Sasaya” is its original nigiri, “Shisobei Sushi.” These nigiri are wrapped in flavorful shiso (perilla) and are offered in four varieties: vinegared baby sea bream, shrimp, shiitake, and narazuke pickles. With a light, refreshing taste, it’s a popular dish with many fans. You can, of course, order the in-house “Assorted Shisobei Sushi” (1600 yen), and it’s also available online. It can be stored frozen, making it ideal as a takeaway gift or present.

“Sushi Sasaya” makes no compromises in sourcing, purchasing fresh fish from the Tokushima fish market, including catches from the Naruto Strait, as well as procuring fresh fish shipped directly from various regions. In particular, they are committed to high-quality tuna, which is served in various dishes such as nigiri, rolls, and sashimi.
At “Sushi Sasaya,” in addition to courses for one person priced 4,400–6,600 yen, you can also order à la carte. In addition to counter and table seating, there are tatami rooms, so you can choose courses for business meals or go à la carte when visiting with family or friends—the versatility is one of the restaurant’s attractions.

Among the à la carte dishes, a recommendation is the “Seafood-packed Salad” (1280 yen). This colorful dish is lavishly topped with fresh seafood, letting you enjoy not only vegetables but also an abundance of fresh fish—a luxurious plate.
The restaurant welcomes families and also offers “Kids’ Nigiri” (1400 yen). The selection features toppings kids love, and the nigiri are made bite-size so children can eat them easily. They look adorable too—sure to get the kids excited!
The tasteful atmosphere that conveys the restaurant's history since its founding is one of its charms. Enjoy a meal at the counter while chatting with the chef, or take your time savoring your food in the tatami room……
The warm hospitality of 『Sushi Sasaya』 will surely make your meal taste even better.
As a family-run restaurant, it provides thoughtful considerations and services for families with children. In addition to child-friendly nigiri, kids' cutlery, and allowing entry with strollers, the option to place contactless orders via tablet is another welcome point. When you want to enjoy sushi made with fresh seasonal seafood, be sure to visit 『Sushi Sasaya』.
