Colorful and undeniably photogenic!
『Su Yuan Wonton(蘇園餛飩)』
Today we’re introducing Japan’s first handmade wonton specialty shop, 『Su Yuan Wonton』, located a 6-minute walk from Okubo Station.
This popular spot serves colorful, photogenic wontons tinted with natural pigments extracted from vegetables, as well as treats like rainbow pies.
So cute you’ll want to snap a photo, “Rainbow Pie” (box of 3 for 1,820 yen; 550 yen per piece) is a hot topic on Instagram. Inside the macaron is a salted egg yolk wrapped in white bean paste, making it sweet with a subtle salty note—a uniquely Chinese dessert. Purchases of Rainbow Pie and similar items require a reservation one week in advance. If you want to buy it as a gift, be sure to reserve before visiting!
The shop’s recommendation is “Soup Wontons” (8 pieces 1,050 yen; 10 pieces 1,340 yen). The wrappers are of just the right thickness, with the wonton’s characteristic silky texture, and they pair perfectly with the gentle broth. Yellow is corn, white is shepherd’s purse, pink is shrimp, orange is kimchi, and green is mushrooms—each color has a different filling, so you can enjoy them to the last bite. The colors are extracted from vegetables, making them gentle on the body and wonderfully photogenic.
“Mixed Wontons” (8 pieces 950 yen; 10 pieces 1240 yen) have a pleasantly chewy texture and offer a different taste from the soup wontons. The wontons themselves are well seasoned and delicious as is, but they’re also great with a drizzle of crunchy house-made chili oil.
Open the stately entrance and you’ll be greeted by a warm, stylish space. The interior recreates the local atmosphere, making you feel as if you’ve visited China.
When you hear “rainbow-colored food,” many moms might hesitate. Here, the dough is made using the natural colors extracted from vegetables, so it’s safe for children to eat. The cute-looking menu is sure to get both moms and kids excited. Come visit to experience the deliciousness and cuteness for yourself.
