This time, we introduce 『CAFE SOSEKI』, located inside the Soseki Sanbo Memorial Museum, a 6-minute walk from Waseda Station.
Since the museum opened in September 2017, it has been a relaxing spot for visitors, where you can enjoy sweets related to Soseki and carefully crafted drinks.
A popular item here is the “Butter Cake” (850 yen; includes a drink of your choice from coffee, black tea, hojicha, cafe latte, or persimmon leaf tea) from Nagasakido, a long-established shop in Hiroshima with ties to Natsume Soseki. So popular that it sells out by noon at the Hiroshima main store, this butter cake is characterized by a moist texture and rich flavor. It’s sure to satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth.
The “Kuya Monaka” (750 yen; includes a drink of your choice from coffee, black tea, hojicha, cafe latte, or persimmon leaf tea) from “Ginza Kuya,” a venerable shop in Ginza that appears in “I Am a Cat”, is a must-order for Soseki fans. Inside the delicate monaka wafers is a generous filling of azuki beans with an elegant sweetness. Enjoying it while reading Soseki’s works may make it taste even better.
With an entire wall of glass, the café offers a modern atmosphere full of openness. Stop by after touring the memorial museum where you can immerse yourself in Natsume Soseki’s world, and you can enjoy café time while savoring the afterglow.

The café has a nursing room, which is a reassuring point for breastfeeding mothers. Strollers are of course welcome.
