“Spine-Tingling Deep-Sea Creatures” series marks its 10th beloved installment! Fan-favorite deep-sea creatures from past releases are all here! At Sunshine Aquarium, the event that unravels the mysteries of deep-sea creatures, “ゾクゾク深海生物2026 これまでの歩み,” will be held. The “deep sea” refers to ocean areas deeper than 200 meters. There are very few opportunities to see the deep-sea creatures that live there alive, and many people may feel it is like a distant world. To convey the appeal of deep-sea creatures, Sunshine Aquarium has held the “ゾクゾク深海生物” series every winter since 2017, exhibiting enigmatic deep-sea creatures and explaining the features of bodies (parts) that evolved to survive the harsh deep-sea environment, as well as their unique and mysterious ecologies. Marking the memorable 10th installment, this time the theme is “これまでの歩み,” and the highlight creatures and exhibits from past editions will be unveiled all at once! To allow more people to visit, the event period will be extended compared with previous years. The series will be held on its largest scale ever, with events where you can taste “深海汁” made using underutilized deep-sea fish*, events where you can touch deep-sea fish you rarely see, and talk shows featuring deep-sea enthusiasts including comedian Masaaki Hirai of “男性ブランコ.” In the heart of the city, at the rooftop aquarium of a building in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, why not experience up close the allure of deep-sea creatures that otherwise feel so distant? 【POINT】 ◆ A one-stop showcase of past headline deep-sea creatures and exhibits! Popular deep-sea creatures such as ミドリフサアンコウ and アカザエビ will be exhibited. In addition, we will attempt deep-sea collection during the event period, and the collected organisms are planned to be displayed in special tanks inside the facility. Furthermore, lavish exhibits will also be revealed at once, including the world’s only plastination specimen of “ヨコヅナイワシ” and a frozen specimen of the potentially new species “白いソコボウズ（仮称）”! ◆ Hands-on events where you can touch deep-sea creatures The popular backstage tour where you can touch live deep-sea organisms and frozen specimens will be held, along with “深海魚タッチ,” an event where you can touch deep-sea creatures caught by bottom trawling. ◆ Enjoy “深海汁” made with underutilized deep-sea fish! 2,000 yen per fish!? This time, “深海汁” made with underutilized fish collected during deep-sea expeditions will be served. ◆ “深海トーク”: deep conversations about the deep sea after closing We will host a deep-sea talk show featuring noted figures synonymous with deep-sea life, including comedian Masaaki Hirai of “男性ブランコ.” 【Interactive Content】 ◆ ゾクゾク深海ツアー The “Exploration Guide Tour,” in which keepers guide you through the normally off-limits backstage while sharing stories about the animals, will be offered once per day in a special deep-sea version! To commemorate the 10th installment, the content will differ between the first and second halves. In the first half, “ゾクゾクタッチ” will be held where you can touch live deep-sea creatures, and in the second half, you can touch frozen specimens of rare deep-sea creatures. “Sunshine City World Orchid Exhibition 2026 (65th All Japan Orchid Society Orchid Show) — Welcome to the World of Orchids: Color and Fragrance —” will be held. This event, themed “Welcome to the World of Orchids: Color and Fragrance,” is one of Japan’s leading orchid shows, exhibiting around 800 orchids submitted from areas around Kanto, from species that convey the charm of nature to the latest flowers that represent the pinnacle of breeding. While viewing vibrant orchid flowers up close, you can obtain information about orchids from various perspectives through diverse displays and sales as well as lectures by experts. The world of orchid fragrance is wide-ranging, from sweet perfume-like scents to spicy notes, fruity aromas, and even highly distinctive fragrances.
